Mob mentality has been around since humans have existed. It’s a mentality where all moral compass is twisted in favor of what the crowd is feeling at the current moment which is very dangerous, since emotions take hold rather than rationality.
Without even knowing it, most people are affected by the ones around them and simply join the bandwagon to attack a person they have no relations to and don’t have any context behind the attack.
I’m here to simply say that this dangerous mentality has only been increased due to the rise of modern technology and amplified by social media. Rumors spread like wildfire because of mob mentality because if that’s all a person sees online, this lie, then they will most likely believe it because it’s shown that most people just look at the headlines of articles, videos, or other sources of information and take it as fact. An example would be if a headline said Trump again attacks such and such, people will automatically believe it because of the subconscious bias already established whether you support or dislike him, and if they dislike him, the hate already displayed in many mediums further makes them join the mob and believe in a potential lie. This mentality has shown to make people trash common sense and reflection.
What are your thoughts on mob mentality and its dangers? Have you ever been in a mob mentality state and later realize that?
My thoughts on mob mentality are that it can be dangerous sometimes and people don't take the time to analysis the situation before. Mob mentality could lead to people getting hurt or injured and I never have been in a mob mentality state before. I usually don't jump to conclusion on topics based of one person saying something and I sit back analysis the situation as well.
ReplyDeleteMob mentality is dangerous and seems very insincere. To blindly support or dislike someone is very foolish since you're just doing it to "fit in". People should be attentive to false news and explore other possibilities. Not realizing the potential of their biased opinion is harmful and is ineffective when they're close minded. I have been in a mob mentality state and have realized it. It's something I'm ashamed of and have grown from so that my own understandings and opinions are independent.
