Should Students have more say in what the school does?
The high school community is very diverse in people, interests, and efforts. What is important to one person might not be as important to another. However, there is one common thing everyone thinks, our school needs changes. Amon these changes could be more direction of funds to mental health counselors on campus because guidance counselors really do not help we English teachers shouldn't suffer any longer. Yes, we need fair funding towards programs like sports and arts, but shouldn't students be able to advocate places where the other funds could go? Yes, the board may think they have our best interest at heart, but who knows better than the student what the actual needs of their peers are. Although some might argue high schoolers aren't mature enough to make that decision, we make big decisions all the time like what classes to take and what careers to choose. If school ants to prepare us for college, we should be allowed a certain level of autonomy that lets us choose how we help ourselves in school and spend extra time. Some other ideas include aquatic facilities, college preparedness seminars, home essential skills, and more student help services. How do you feel? Are high schoolers ready to make funding decisions?
