Today it was announced by CIF sports' seasons weren't coming back in the fall, and that the three seasons would be combined into two. Even when they come back, I doubt band will be there at the game as there will be significant spacing between people and I doubt that they are seriously going to stay on track regarding sports. More than likely, they will keep pushing the seasons back until school is allowed to reconvene again. Marching band competitions still seem to be scheduled normally, but they surely won't be able to practice like they used to. Coronavirus has especially complicated sports as they rely heavily on physical contact. It may seem like a bad idea to start sports again when we are still struggling to reduce infections, but it depends on how we do this. I can almost guarantee that we won't be packing the stadiums when sports do return, nor should we. What do you think, should we be started sports again in the spring? What sports do you miss the most? Are you sad that we won't be seeing sports back for a while?
When school first shut down, most of us thought it was a dream come true- 2 weeks of no school. However, It quickly elevated when School shut down for the rest of the year, we went into quarentine, and now everythings getting called off. Concerts, Sports, and more are getting postponed, We all miss life before Covid-19, but the closure of these are the best for our health. But honestly most of us do not care at this point and would want everything to open up (including school sports)and risk getting sick.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the announcement that CIF put out, and I honestly think it wasn't smart. The likelihood of fall seasons actually starting in December is extremely low. Scientists have expressed the "second wave" of the coronavirus during the next flu season, so I expect CIF to either cancel, or push back the seasons again in the future. By CIF telling us our seasons will be in the future, it gives our coaches excuses to continue to train us hard before the winter. As of right now we aren't even allowed to practice together, so how are close contact sports supposed to train for a season? Being in cross country, it's easier for us to train on our own, but track season is supposed to start a day after XC ends. I'm worried about what that will mean for injuries and runners' well being.
ReplyDeleteMaybe sport that barely involve contact such as golf, track, and cross country can go back to play. Otherwise everything else seems like it has to wait until a vaccine comes out. We cant risk the spreading to other schools because one person doesn't know they have it.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would like sports to start up in the fall, I believe it isn't smart to do so. Being a part of Showtime, it's sad that we won't have a fall or Christmas concert like we are used to. Although the school doesn't consider us a sport and we don't get PE credit, we very much work just as hard if not harder than all the sports on campus. I wish we could get together and choreograph a show, but it's not worth the risk. Right now, we just need to be patient and stay at home so we can stay healthy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough most people who are athletic scholars want sports back up, I don't think it's a smart idea to do so. I play volleyball and I do miss playing in the gym everyday during summer, but just due to how people can easily be exposed to each other is very much not safe. Some sports don't require physical contact, but other sports include specific items like a ball. Having to share the same ball is a lot of physical contact that people shouldn't be sharing during this crisis. Nevertheless, it will be hard playing sports in a mask. I suggest we wait for the vaccine to come out and for the rate of Corona to go down. We should play safe than sorry.
