Where will we be next year?
Today my mom posed the question: Where do you think we'll be next year? This really got me thinking about the future and if it will stay the way it is right now or if things will go back to normal. This all depends on everyone following the rules that protect and reduce risks of us getting covid-19. Currently, a lot of people are developing a casual attitude towards the pandemic and are being careless by not wearing masks when they are outside. I see whole families walking down the street and none of them are wearing masks. If this continues, then nothing will change and we will still be in quarantine. I think that things will go back to normal and we will be able to go to school again maybe without needing a mask. A cure might be created this year and then covid-19 will not be a threat anymore. Where do you think we will be next year? Do you think life will go back to 'normal'?

If I had to be honest, I think there is no going "back to normal", rather we are creating a new sense of normality. I don't believe that anything will be quite the same as it was before (at least nowhere in the reasonable future). I find it highly unlikely that places with high population capacities such as Disneyland will quite be the same, just as I think that schools will be significantly changed. Hypothetically if we did have a cure by next year, the paranoia that parents, health officials, and other influential dignitaries would still remain: leaving us in a constant state of caution. Occasions such as next year's homecoming and prom are also in question, considering the fact that they are close-contact social events. To be optimistic, I'd hope to say that we'll at least be in school by next year. To be truthful and transparent, the circumstances and case numbers seem to prove otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is a going back to normal, due to new guidelines and rules people have set, that are just going to stay for safety's sake. A higher focus on cleaning places, washing your hands, among others seemed like a normality before, but would be greatly reinforced to levels that haven't been seen before. People might just start wearing masks on the regular like in some parts of Asia. Where we will be next year might depend on how agressive the approach to containing the situation becomes, if its not contained then we might still be in the same positsion we are in now.
ReplyDeleteIf people continue to not wear masks, Covid is here to stay for as long as non mask wearers want. Continually seeing people without their masks is making everything worse. My mom, who is a nurse, expects Covid to last just as long as these people want. It is actually starting to frustrate me and my family because we have already lost someone due to Covid and how many more is it going to take before people start wearing their masks and isolating.
