First of all, I believe that children, as well as everyone else, should be required to wear face masks. They should not be excluded from these rules because they can contract the virus and spread it as well. I have siblings and the younger ones are one and four years old, however that does not mean we will let them get exposed to others. My four year old brother does understand why he has to wear a mask when he goes outside, and he obeys even if he does not like it. For my youngest sibling the situation is, of course, a little more difficult because they do not understand, however after constantly telling him he has to put on a mask or else he can not go outside he obeys.
Although some children do not understand why it is necessary to wear a mask, I think the parents should do the best they can to protect them and others. Even if a parent protects themselves, the most they possibly can, but their child is not protected, then it does not work. If the parent is going to go out with the child, then the child should also be protected. They may touch things even more frequently than an adult does and if they are with them, they are obviously around the same people. We do not know if these people they are around have the virus, just like they themselves may not know. Therefore, if a child is not protected it ends up being the same as the parents not protecting themselves, even if they think they are. Since they have contact with the same people, the child can either pick up the virus or give it to others.
I also believe that if a child wears a mask they can set the example for others. Older people, who may not want to wear a mask, may be encouraged because they see someone way younger than them doing the right thing. Although we do not know if the virus is as contagious as it is said to be, everyone should protect themselves for the safety of all. But this is just my opinion and I would like to know if people think the same. Should children wear masks? If so, do you believe it will help ? Based on your experience, do you think the virus is as contagious as it is said to be, or is it exaggerated ?
Yes, children should wear masks, but only when they reach a certain age. The thing is, for really young children (one to two years old) masks could be a choking hazard. Also, a child this young won't leave the mask on his or her face. Once they are over two years old, they should wear a mask. My cousin, who is four years old, wears a mask because he sees that his parents and other family members wearing them. All in all, children of a certain age can help slow the spread of the virus by wearing a mask.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely children should wear a mask because they can contract the disease as well. Like Daniel said it has to be above a certain age because of choking hazards as well. If kids and parents wear a mask it can help slow the spread of covid. I have a mom that is a nurse that is working on the front lines and I think the disease is not overly exaggerated. The disease varies from person to person depending on underlying conditions which could lead to respiratory failure and other things. Kids should wear a mask and we also need to teach them and remind them why.
ReplyDeleteChildren should definitely wear masks. The disease can spread to anyone, which means children aren't an exception. They should be protected as well along with everyone. Even if there might be difficulties in making children wear masks, this shouldn't discourage adults from making them wear them. My little brother had no problem wearing a mask once the situation was explained to him. For those who are too young to wear masks, I can see how there is a potential hazard involved. In this case, parents should take extra measures to make them safe.
ReplyDeleteKids should always wear a mask during the pandemic. They are still susceptible to the virus. It might be difficult to get younger children to wear a mask as it does get annoying and seem optional, but to protect them and everyone around them they should wear a mask. It can definitely make everyone a bit safer.
ReplyDeleteI completely believe children should wear masks as younger kids usually get sick easily. They're not immune to Covid-19 so children wearing masks would definitely slow the spread of the virus. Although, I don't think babies (at 1 or 2 years of age) should wear masks since they're a choking hazard. Parents should be particularly careful if babies were to go out in public. They should bring a protective cover around a stroller or just stay home. I saw a parent put a sign on her child in a stroller with a protective cover, saying "Please stay six feet away from me. I'm too little for your germs.” It made me smile as I thought it was adorable but it shows that children are definitely not immune to the virus. Taking precautions such as wearing masks will help stop the virus from spreading. I'm not sure the virus is as contagious as it is said to be, but it's still pretty new and people should definitely be wearing masks in public.
