Being stuck in quarantine and not being able to hangout is probably one of the worst feelings that us teens can have especially during a pandemic. We wanted to look forward to a summer in 2020, and now we can't live up to it because of COVID-19 and following safety guidelines. Most of us have turned to social media to catch up on what's happening in the world, and became some type of "therapy" for us. Since we have nothing else to do, we look on our phones and just scroll through the infinite amount of posts and TikToks that we see. Due to COVID-19, a lot of us needed social media as a distraction from what's happening in real life. Personally, I have turned to social media on a lot of things because I had no motivation to continue on with my enrichment work. However, these past couple of weeks made me realize that I needed to change my routine for the good. Continuing on with an unproductive life style is not good for my health as I have also stayed up very late for an endless amount of weeks. Social media is such a high technological platform that all of us can use to communicate and to keep ourselves distracted. However, it can get addicting to a point where we shut ourselves out from everyone.
How has social media played in your life? Did you spend endless amount of hours on either Instagram, Tiktok, and Snapchat? What's your opinion about how social media plays in our lives?
Hey Kayce! I believe social media is both positive and negative. Contrary to many peopleʼs experiences with this quarantine, my social media usage has been lowered. Throughout quarantine, I have tried being productive in something: whether it be in riding bikes, learning to skateboard, commencing college planning, or spending more time with family. I try limiting my usage of social media, so I do not use my phone after nine on weeknights. Although it is so easy to quit doing any productive activity and spend time on social media, it is not ideal. Social media plays a major role in our lives. It is so easy to be caught up for hours just scrolling through your feed, refreshing for new content, or just watching countless videos.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are some positive aspects of social media. Social media, especially Twitter and Instagram, is a quick and easy way to find news. Of course, if it is not from a trusted news source, it is ideal to research the topic. While going through social media, there are tons of people advocating for a cause and petitioning, so it important to join in and help as much as possible. Overall, I believe it is important to not spend so much time on social media, but it is still important to stay informed.
Social media is definitely addictive. It was designed to hook the attention of their users for as long as possible. While social media platforms have their benefits, frequent use can make people feel unhappy or isolated. These emotions are generally produced due to the social pressure of sharing with others and comparing lifestyles. Hours are also potentially wasted with mindless scrolling, which leaves less time for getting things done throughout the day. However, this isn’t to say that social media is “bad”, it’s a great way to connect with friends and family and receive relevant information, but it can become unhealthy without any self-imposed restrictions.
ReplyDeleteI believe that social media is very addicting. These past months in quarantine everyone in my household are on their phone for countless hours. Being on social media for too long can be bad but it helps time go by for me. I’m not on my phone 24/7 but I am on it for like 2 hours straight. I take an hour break and go do something else. But social media is the only way we can communicate with our friends and family. Being stuck in quarantine is the worst feeling ever but social media helps make it better. But it's good to take a break from social media.
