How Have Teens Been Affected By Quarantine?

Summer vacation is a time to relax and have fun while being away from school. Staying home during quarantine has greatly affected how we've all spent our summer. Gladly, we have all relaxed, but it's gotten to the point where being lazy is no longer enjoyable.  Many things we could do for fun are unavailable. I can truthfully say that our phones became our new best friends.
I've realized everyone's social life has become extremely worse. I barely talk to the people I know from school and instead spend most of my time on social media such as TikTok.  I believe TikTok is boredom therapy. Most people on the app are teens, who are bored just like everyone else. On the app, teens have started big movements such as the Manny Heffley movement where the flag and national anthem are changed. Even though it is a joke, there is some truth to what is happening. Hundreds of thousands of teens have used their platform to speak about big problems in America and the world.
Although we have been stuck in the house with nothing to do, social media will always be there to save the day. Not everybody made the safe decision to stay home. Some teens couldn't handle being quarantined for months so they broke. They went to the beach or other places to hang out with friends. This is very unsafe as these are the people who at some point will be back around us at school. It can be very boring and hard to stay home and do nothing but as we all learned in the past few months, "It is what it is", but they should think about turning to apps such as TikTok instead of risking their lives in the streets.

  1. I agree, people shouldn’t just worry about themselves but the impact they can have on other people. I get irritated when I see people on social media out in public without masks. They should realize that they’re not the only one suffering by staying inside all day, we all are. We must always wear our masks when going out in public for the safety of ourselves and everyone else.

  2. I also agree, in the beginning of quarantine despite the sad truth of the Covid-19 outbreak, we at least had things to do in the safety of our own homes. Whether it had to do with painting, baking, or even going on our phones, we were always occupied with something. But it is true, it has gotten to the point where being lazy is no longer enjoyable. During the school year we enjoyed every moment we got a chance to have a break, because of all the school work we were given. But now it seems we have tried everything and resorted to being on our phones to occupy ourselves. It is also very frustrating seeing on social media that our classmates are out in public and not wearing masks! When there is the possibility of being in the same class with them when school eventually starts. I think everyone including our peers need to put into perspective what's safe not only for themselves, but for those around them.

  3. I totally agree with you. We've been so attached to social media because we get all our information there and in all honesty, the only thing we have. It is better for us to turn to apps such as TikTok because it's safer and we need to follow the safety guidelines and not hangout with our friends without social distancing and face masks. However, we have grown lazy because of that mindset of being attached to our phones and we should learn how to develop a productive routine from it. Other than that, teens like us need to realize that this COVID-19 isn't some type of joke. We need to take this seriously and protect ourselves from this virus.
