There are many ways in which people across the world have protected themselves from this virus. Wearing masks, face shields, and constantly sanitizing are just some of the precautions the CDC has suggested. Although most do take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, not everybody does. If stricter rules were enforced, do you think that could help stop the spread of Covid-19?
In the United States, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia, all have fines if you are not wearing a mask. Although it seems like a lot, those are only 28 out of the 50 states that enforce wearing masks. Or as I see it, states that put in an effort to decrease the number of cases in their population. However that also means there are 32 other states who don’t enforce that rule, but that doesn’t necessarily mean those other states don’t want their population to not wear masks. It just means they’re not enforcing a difference in the process of stopping the spread of Covid-19. Despite there being fines in some states, the states that have this rule don’t seem to be exercising it. Personally, I have never seen anybody who wasn’t wearing a mask get fined. Have you? If all the states across the country were to fine those who don’t wear masks, I believe the US could’ve saved many more lives.
Other than fining those who don’t wear masks, another way that could help stop the spread of this virus is having a curfew. Although I would personally hate having a curfew, I think the reasoning behind this idea is very smart. Plus, since we are still quarantining, is having a curfew really gonna affect us? By having a curfew it reduces the number of people walking around and spreading their germs. This could also allow places that are highly populated to have the opportunity to be cleaned overnight for the next day. A curfew doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be in bed in this case, it just means you have to be home unless you are a medical worker or going to your job. Although the idea of a curfew is not new, it has been lifted in most states.
So do you think there should be stricter rules to help stop the spread of Covid-19? Is it a good idea to fine those who don’t wear masks? Would you mind having a curfew? Do you have any new ideas to help prevent the spread that already hasn't been done?
Hi Halena!! In order to stop the spread of COVID19, I do believe that stricter rules need to be enforced. People are always crowded into confined areas, and that's not good. Sure, they may have masks, but there's still a small chance of transmission if no social distancing rule is enforced. Also, I do believe it's a good idea to fine non-masked people. Masks are great tools for preventing the spread of COVID19, making them life savers, so there should be no reason why a person shouldn't wear one, unless they are sick, which means they should stay at home. In response to your curfew, I think that's a good idea. Many people are staying out late at beaches, parties, or bars, risking the spread of COVID19, so curfews would be good for public health.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be stricter rules put in place to stop Covid-19 spread because the United States of America has probably done the worst job in combating the spread of the virus. There are third world countries that have done better jobs in combating the spread. We need stricter rules in place because we tried reopening too early which brought a second wave of the virus and it's causing us to close once again when we could have just taken extra steps to stay home and only leave when necessary.
