Should we continue to drink cow milk?
The dairy industry is very gruesome and cruel to cows, The conditions that they live in are less than ideal and can be extremely crowded. Not only that but in order to produce milk a cow must be pregnant and when it gives birth the baby is taken from them to either be slaughtered for veal or to grow up and follow sit. These cows are essentially milked to death in a nonstop cycle. The treatment of these cows is extremely inhumane and needs changing. There are however milk alternatives. Some of these include almond milk, cashew milk, and oat milk. Almond and cashew milk have their flaws though, they use massive amounts of water in their manufacturing process. Oat milk though is sustainable and very yummy. Even though the dairy industry is so messed up humans have integrated milk into our everyday lives. We rely on it for calcium and took cook, to remove it entirely would be extremely difficult. Should we stop drinking milk altogether? Reform the dairy industry? Or switch to a milk alternative?

Although it is a difficult route to follow, I agree that consumers should make the switch. As a person who has had to make the change, the journey becomes easy over time. As you have said, the dairy industry's conditions are absolutely appalling, and change is needed. If we were able to reduce, or go as far as to eliminate consumption of dairy products we'd also be improving our environmental situations that we face today.
ReplyDeleteHey Janelle! It's really great to hear from someone who has made changes :). If you don't mind me asking, oat milk or almond?
DeleteAs of right now, my family drinks almond milk. I'm currently trying to get them to switch to oat milk though being that it is the better choice. Personally, I find oat milk to be more filling and better tasting too.
