The Dangers of the Internet

Everyone is familiar with misinformation and fear-mongering, but it is so hard to avoid. You can never truly know who or what to believe on the internet, especially when you aren't very knowledgeable about things brought up in the rumor.
I remember recently there was a screenshot about the dank member bot on discord, that he was tracking IPs and sending them to people who were kidnapping and tracking people. To me, it seemed sketchy that such a well-known bot could be linked to kidnappings and somehow still be running, but many others were freaking out and removing them from their servers. Even though I was suspicious I still couldn't know for sure without seeing other Reddit comments debunking the screenshot as made up. My point is that it can be hard to separate the truth from pure fiction. Especially on the internet where everyone's opinion is valued the same and misinformation spreads easily.
What kind of internet rumors have you come across? Have you fallen for any, or maybe it was obviously fake? Maybe there was one that really scared for a second?

  2. I completely agree with you about the internet being dangerous. There was a time where one of my friends was sent this really weird message. She pressed on the link and was hacked. Luckily there was no personal information stolen. I have received some of those messages before but I never clicked on it cause I already knew it was a scam. Indeed the internet can be very dangerous but as long as you're careful and know what you’re doing you’ll be fine.
