What do you do to motivate yourself.

I was reading a room for debate article and was asking ex-Olympians how do they motivate themselves. All of them had their own unique answers that made them keep on pushing to their goal.  One said that before their training, he looks at himself in a mirror repeating and asking himself, is he going to put in his 100% until he has to leave his house. Another says that she sets mini-goals that she can achieve in days or weeks to help her achieve the bigger goal that she set for herself.
How do you motivate yourself? This could include academic studies and physical activity. Why do you push to be better at what you do?
An example of me trying to motivate myself is when I exercise. I say to myself that even though I don't want to exercise, my body will appreciate me later and all the work will pay off.

  1. For me personally, knowing that there could be a negative gives me motivation. As a skeptic, I always question the integrity of a problem or solution at a mere pessimistic angle. I believe that seeing things can only fly north only makes me take a matter less seriously. Whenever I press myself to do something, knowing that things may go to dust if I don't do something pushes me to accomplish so called task. It may be a psychological thing, but It has always worked for me and probably always will.

  2. Just like one of the Olympians above, I set small goals for myself for me to achieve in small periods of time. Ultimately, these goals help me to meet or reach the bigger overall goal I have set for myself. This helps me because although it takes a while to achieve the big goal I desire to achieve, it makes me feel good to achieve small ones along the way as well. What also motivates me is the end result and how that result will change me or my life.

  3. When it comes to physical activity I set my goals and if I ever feel like I’m gonna give up I just tell myself that it's almost over or that I’m gonna regret giving up and not pushing myself. Saying this always motivates me to do my best and achieve greater things. When it comes to academics it’s more difficult for me to get motivated. Usually i get motivated when there is only a day left to finish the homework or if I tell myself to do it now rather than later. Overall, these methods help me stay motivated.

  4. My motivation always derives from how desirable I want the outcome. I think looking into the mirror is oddly useful. Telling yourself things like, “How much do you really want it?”, while looking into your own eyes can be quite the driving force. You need to discover within yourself, how much do you want to accomplish that goal. Think about what you are willing to do in order to reach that point. If that allows you to adopt the mindset that you are willing to endure anything in order to create a better version of yourself, then you are on the right path. In a figurative sense, die and die again. Be reborn in a new light, a light filled with the accomplishments that you long ago wished that you could achieve.
