Encyclopedia.com had discussed the topic of "Fruit in Mythology", and described how specific fruits became symbolic meanings in myths and different cultures around the world. Apples had the most variance in its symbolic traits. Golden apples that were tended by Hesperides, the "Daughters of the Evening", in Greek mythology had the ability to heal and renew themselves once eaten, while in Norse mythology, golden apples gave eternal youth to the gods. In modern culture, the apple is associated with wisdom and temptation. This being that we often think of teachers with apples or recall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. In Japan and China, peaches are tied to the elimination of evil and misfortune. Hinamatsuri or the peach festival in Japan, celebrates the growth and happiness of young girls and is prepared with dolls decorated with peach blossoms. Sweet peaches in Korea similarly are seen as the fruit of happiness and honor.
Is there a fruit that is predominately associated with your culture? When we were figuring out what fruit we were, we mostly took note of its physical traits. So more directed to as an individual, are you easily likable to a lot of people like a watermelon, or are you sour but with the right people can be sweet such as a lemon? Do you see yourself as unique and hard to come by, maybe a type of exotic fruit? There are so many fruits to choose from, so which fruit are you?
Personally I remember for an interview they asked this same question about what fruit I would be. I answered with coconut and the reason is I'm very rigid on the outside, but once you get to know me I'm kinda sweet. I also just like coconuts because in the movies when they fall and hit someone in the head it makes me laugh a lot. I'm more of a tropical fruit to answer the question.
ReplyDeletePeople always described me as a cunning and sharp, yet blunt and potent. When I think of this, in regards of describing a fruit, I think of a hot pepper (yes, peppers are fruits). My reasoning is that peppers are very delicious and a key part of many cuisines. However, the people who hate peppers trend to really hate peppers. Eating a pepper is like jumping into a comfy bed only for the pillow to be filled with needles. In short terms, I'm not what people expect I am. I can be described as any fruit that is painful to eat. Examples: Durian, Limes, Kumquats, or anything that hurts to eat.
